Baobab - Le Terranga
An Open Letter from Marco

Happy Diners Enjoying Drinks and Appetizers

Since, I got back from my short trip to Europe and Africa, I am realizing that the energy in San Francisco is very different.  The economy is devastating all the happy faces I used to see at every corner of the city.

Even the early morning coffee seems more bitter than usual.  Just this morning again, the daily paper highlighted the terror of war and the collapse of the stock market.  What a pessimistic vision for us.

Most of my friends lost their jobs and perhaps had to leave the state.  Is it the threat of the war, the bad economy, or the loss of the giants game?  Come on now!  What can we do all together to lift up the human spirit again?

You know in West Africa or Eastern Europe people are poorer than here, but they still have friendship and happy celebration to keep them alive every day.  People joke and smile every where in the street.  A sense of strong human consciousness is protecting their natural way of living.  I think the secret of life is not at all in what we have materially, but more in what we are as human being. Even here at the restaurant, I realized the difference.

Well you know me well enough by now!  We are not going to change the world, but this is what we are establishing at the restaurant Bissap Baobab till we are feeling some positive changes around.

We are offering the West African Terranga at the restaurant.  The Terranga is the up most Senegalese traditional hospitality.  The Terranga dish at the restaurant is a big communal bowl of Mafe or Yassa brought to you for a minimum of four persons eating together and at a minimum expense of $4 per person.

After experimenting the Terranga, maybe you and your family can take something away from our natural way of living. Remember, it is more what you are than what you have.

In that sense people will be richer in human values.  Therefore you will enjoy better to celebrate each other, but also food, music, peace, harmony, but more important, the respect of natural human ethics. As my dear Friend Michael Franti would say:  “Stay Human”
