Le Baobab - An International Affair

Marco and Dinner Guests

Right from the beginning Marco attracted a collage of international friends living in San Francisco who worked tirelessly from the heart building up the Keur Baobab from scratch in the shell of the old Mr. Good Ginger factory.

But it is Marco's never ending bright energy and warm open friendly charisma and business sense that pulled it all together.  Among the many notable helpers who intially built up the 1st Baobab, the Keur Baobab, were the German brothers and musicians Christopher, Patrick and Benji.  Also on the scene were Lloyd the set designer and carpenter, and Clane the creative bartender who hit upon the idea to use Marco's juices in mixed drinks & Marco's good friend Michel, the bartender from the Cameroon who continues in Clane’s tradition of fine mixing.  There was also an international smattering of cooks, wait persons, and bus people:  Tina from Louisiana, Sandra from France, Zsofia and Gabby the film-maker from Hungary, and Kim, l’autre Marco, Pat and Jorge, and last but not least, Marco’s good Yugoslavian friend Boris, also fluent in English and French, who now manages the relocated Bissap Baobab.

Many of Marco's intial staff & dear friends have personally and professionally evolved and moved on locally and internationally, yet often returning, they joyfully share adventures while dining with Marco.

But like flowing waters under the shade of Baobabs at river’s edge, small wavelets of new talent continually lap refreshing cool waters into the maturing Baobabs.

There’s Marco’s friend Rafael from La Reunion Island—now managing newly seasoned staff in the shell of the original Baobab—who along with Marco has transformed this West African Keur Baobab into the ‘Little Baobab’ that now serves original Creole style fare.

And at Bissap Baobab, new friendly faces such as Chef Ma Belle Michelle whip up delicious and creative standard West African fare, while Amber, Andrea & Laure hospitably present this fine cuisine as their beautiful waiting presence cools your dining experience fresh like tropical river’s breeze under shaded Baobabs.
